We had a pretty busy weekend in little old New Zealand, my son had a rugby game, my daughter had netball practise, some last minute shopping needed to be done for Mother’s Day…
And then it was Mother’s Day.
What was a rubbish day weather wise, was pretty busy in itself, with pancakes for brunch, a family movie and a nice dinner, all being prepared by yours truly while my wife enjoyed being pampered.
And do you know what, my laptop stayed closed the entire weekend.
Which for some people, particularly those that are in the “always hustling entrepreneur” camp, would probably be looked upon as a big no-no.
After all, you have to sacrifice to get what you want, work harder than anyone else in the room, do what others aren’t prepared to do… and all that.
But guess what…
I have no regrets in the slightest.
I can guarantee you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I will not look back at this weekend when it’s my time to go and think, “man I wished I’d done some work that weekend”.
My weekend was great, I spent a ton of time with my kids and my wife, we laughed and ate far too much.
All in all, it was a great weekend, and as much as I love being sat in front of my laptop, working on websites or creating content etc, I’m more than happy to say that I don’t feel guilty at all.
After all, isn’t this type of thing what we’re all really aiming for at the end of the day, the time to do the things you love without having to worry about work, or making money online?
Don’t beat yourself up about skipping a day
Yes, you are going to have to work hard if you want to be successful and “different”, especially if your goal is to avoid “working” for 40-50 years before finally retiring with a few dollars in the bank.
You can’t take every day off!
But you should always make sure to take time for yourself when it’s important to you and (if relevant) your family.
Take a step back and recharge your mind by forgetting about whatever it is that has you bogged down in your business.
Go have fun, let loose and do whatever you want to do.
Then come back to your business, and focus!
You’d be amazed how good you’ll feel and how fresh your mind can be after even the smallest of breaks, especially if you are trying to crack a particular problem or you’ve been having trouble getting the hang of something.
In conclusion
So what’s the point of this post?
Well, from my perspective I just wanted to share the idea that it’s possible to not be on your laptop or computer every day of the week, even if you’re hustling to build your (side) business.
And if you have taken some time off recently, don’t beat yourself up about it.
Don’t let too much time pass without spending some time on building your ideal life, the longer you leave it the harder it will be to “forgive yourself” for your absence.
And the last thing you want is to feel so guilty that you just pack it all in.
Enjoy the time away, come back refreshed and get back at it.
Until next time…
